EUROPEAN AND REGIONAL TRIPS

Fifth Grade

The fifth grade class takes a two week trip to France at the end of the school year after graduation. The students stay with a family and attend school and take a number of field trips to local sites. The trip is chaperoned by the fifth grade teachers and usually one parent. The trip is the culmination of their language and cultural experience in elementary school putting their knowledge to work and deepening their understanding of French culture.

Sixth Grade

Sixth graders go to Outdoor School at OMSI Hancock Field Station for a week at the beginning of the school year. This trip gives them the opportunity to get to know each other better in a setting where they learn about the natural resources and beauties of their state.

Seventh Grade

Seventh graders focus on the theater and performing arts during their February trip to Seattle. For three days they see plays, participate in drama workshops, and enjoy the sights of Seattle in the company of their peers.

Eighth Grade

During the spring, eighth graders get ready to travel to Europe for twelve days. Their beginning language experience culminates with a home stay with a family in France, Spain, or Germany, and includes sight-seeing in a large European city.

All middle school

Each year, the entire middle school is invited to participate in a two-day ski trip on Mount Hood.

Eighth Grade Internships

Each year the eighth grade students participate in an internship off campus. During the years the legislature is in session the eighth graders spend one week in Salem, and during the off legislative years they spend a few days with an environmental organization of their choice. Students research a topic of interest before the internship, explore the topic as it relates to the internship, and report afterward on their findings.
